How does ending the environmental causes of breast cancer help the environment? There is ample evidence that our increased exposure to toxic chemicals is contributing to the epidemic rates of breast and other cancers. These chemicals are in the food we eat, the water we drink and the air we breathe. To learn more about the research linking breast cancer to toxic chemicals, read the Breast Cancer Fund's publication: State of the Evidence: What is the Connection Between Chemicals and Breast Cancer?
To reduce the risk of breast cancer and prevent up to half of all breast cancer cases, we must make fundamental and immediate changes in public policy to eliminate cancer-causing chemicals in our bodies and our environment. If we can eliminate the environmental causes of breast cancer, we will also be eliminating environmental toxins that destroy fragile ecosystems and wildlife. In targeting breast cancer, we hope to build an even larger base of people who believe in the importance of a cleaner, healthier environment, including people who might not otherwise think about the environment as an important issue. Care2's Climb to Prevent Breast Cancer will show everyone that environmental protection is essential to improving our health.
How many people are participating? As of 5:24 pm August 28, (PST), there are 164,728 people participating.
When did the Climb start? The Climb began May 10, 2001.
How am I climbing to prevent breast cancer online?
Breast Cancer Fund specializes in mountain climbs as a way to raise awareness and money for breast cancer prevention. Unfortunately, in real life climbs, only a certain number of people can climb. This virtual climb opens the climb to everyone! Everyone in the world can participate, even if they cannot walk! Just as the Breast Cancer Fund's actual mountain climbs generate money and breast cancer awareness through sponsors and donations, so does this one. Each time you click, sponsors you see on the site pay for your virtual steps up the virtual mountain.
Are there other donation sites on Care2 that I can support? Yes! Care2 is currently running the Race for the Rain Forest in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, the Race for the Big Cats, with Wildlife Conservation Society, and The Race for the Panda with World Wildlife Fund. You can find a convenient link to these races on the top left hand side of each page and vice versa so that you can easily go back an forth between the sites.
Do I need to re-register for other donation sites? No! You can use the same member name and password for all of Care2's sites.
What is The Climb to Prevent Breast Cancer's privacy and spam policy? When you use our online invitation form to invite a friend to come to Prevent Breast Cancer, only one email will be sent to that person. Your friend's email address will not be added to any list of any kind. If your friend decides to register, too, and clicks on the URL in the invitation, s/he will be given the opportunity to sign up to be a member just as you were. If s/he opts to sign up, s/he will receive an update every week, via email. This newsletter can be disabled by clicking on the "My Settings" link found under "My Stats" on the left hand column menu of the website. If your friend does not sign up, s/he will receive zero additional emails from Care2.com, or The Climb. For more information, click here.
Will I actually help prevent breast cancer? Yes! Every time you click the Prevent Breast Cancer button and view the sponsors on the next page, you generate revenue for the Breast Cancer Fund's programs to identify and eliminate the environmental causes of the disease. Only by stopping breast cancer at its root causes will we be able to reduce the number of women who suffer from this devastating disease. You can click the button up to once per day. To increase your impact, you should also invite all your friends to come to the site to click the Prevent Breast Cancer button daily. (If you are logged in, click here to invite friends.)
What will the Breast Cancer Fund do with the money we generate?
Breast Cancer Fund uses its donations to identify and eliminate the environmental causes of breast cancer. For more information on their work, click here.
Do I really make a difference? Certainly! Let's say you start clicking on the day we launch and invite 3 friends to start clicking as well. After just 5 days, if all of those people invited do the same thing, 211 people will be clicking! So, yes! Your actions do make a difference.
Exactly how far do I travel per click? The number steps you travel depends upon how many sponsors we have. With
just one sponsor, you travel 10 steps towards our virtual mountain summit with each click. With two sponsors, you travel 20 feet with each click. If you're interested in sponsoring the Race,
click here for more information. If you know of potential sponsors, please
tell them to contact us at .

I am a member of Care2.com. Do I have to sign-up? No. Care2 members are already registered. Simply use your normal Care2 login name and password to sign-in.
If I participated in the Race for the Rain Forest or Big Cats, do I need to re-register for Prevent Breast Cancer? What happens to my account? There's no need to re-register. Your user name and password are the same.
Why can't I login? The most likely reason is that your web browser is not accepting cookies. If you enable your
cookies and login again, it should work. For more help, click here.
If I do not login, am I still helping prevent breast cancer? Yes! A donation will be made each time you click the Prevent Breast Cancer button, up to once per day. However, you will not "get credit" toward your personal stats if you do not login.
I am not getting the credit I deserve for visiting. Why? Did you log in each time you visit? A donation will be made each daily visit, but in order for your stats to increase, you have to be logged in every time you click.
I am not getting credit for some of my friends who are visiting. Why? To keep this race simple, we are not tracking your friends who visit The Climb. We do track your individual clicks, and if you visit frequently, you'll find special opportunities to add "bonus points" to your totals. And please invite your friends to join - we need all the help we can get!
I made a Care2 t-shirt or other branded product purchase to help more. Why did my personal stats not increase?
With your purchase, we or a partner merchant donates a percentage of the revenues to the Breast Cancer Fund. Currently, your purchase counts only toward the total stats, not your personal stats. Soon, however, your purchases of Care2 branded goods will count towards your personal stats.
Can I personalize an email to a friend?

Hint: You can test this by sending yourself an invitation!
What happens if I use the online invitation form with the wrong email address for a friend? It will bounce back to you. Then you make the corrections and forward it. Our system will have already included the link containing your unique tracking code.
I've visited more frequently than some "Top Climbers." Why am I not in the top 500? Three reasons:
1) Top climbers are updated daily, so the stats might not have updated yet.
2) The value of a visit is determined by how many sponsors we have at the time, and how much
they are paying to sponsor the site (i.e. some visits help more than others).
3) They might have purchased Prevent Breast Cancer Merchandise, which helps significantly with every purchase.
Can I sign-up for multiple accounts to improve my standing? No! To be fair to our advertising sponsors, we ask that you sign-up for only one account. We reserve the right to terminate any account that appears to be abusing the integrity of the Site. We very much support efforts to help prevent breast cancer, but please consider the privacy and rights of all parties involved before doing anything too "creative".
